A Disappointing end to a promising trip.

The Calgary Flames lost their third one-goal game in a row last night in falling to the Boston Bruins 3-2 in the Bruins home opener. Once again the Flames fell just short of a victory in a game that they were in until the buzzer sounded. The most frustrating part is that these 1 goal games are the type that Flames fans have become accustomed to seeing their team win. Kipper usually holds the fort and the Flames play a relentless style that frustrates and exasperates opponents.

Well... they used to... So far this year the Flames have not been able to bring the edgy physical play that has been their trademark in recent seasons for a full 60 minutes, or even 40 most nights. Again last night they outshot the Bruins in the first but came away with a two goal deficit. After getting 13 pucks to the net in the first frame, the Flames were only able to muster 15 in the final two periods, and that was while trying to get back into the game. The Flames need to play their edgy style in order to win games, and simply put: On this road trip they haven't. It's true that Kipper hasn't been as spectacular as usual and likely could have stolen them one or more of the last three games, but the team needs to help themselves by playing high-tempo physical hockey, and until that happens Flames fans had better get used to these types of results.

Alex Tanguay did score on a nice deke in the third to get the game close and has definitely looked much better since joininng the second line. The Flames first line hasn't looked good yet. Iggy is known for being a slow starter but this team needs him to get dominant soon.

Flames next take on Phoenix at the Dome on Tuesday.

Have a great day
